This is the short story of a regular bar patron who won the lottery recently.
The winner.
Author
Laplume.
It was a Friday night and the bar was hopping, everyone was having a grand old time.I surveyed the scene and thought it was high time to get myself home. But as usual, the beer is cold and the air is thick with heat and humidity,I talk myself out of going home early and decide to stay for one more.I know I will pay a hefty price at 7 am. when I drag myself out of bed and can still hear the most frequently played song on the jukebox from the night before still playing in my head
.
I focus my attention on an individual who is slightly tipsy,he asks the bar owner if he can leave his car parked overnight at the bar,the owner gladly takes his key's and proceeds to place them behind the bar.I think to myself,"that is a smart move"Thinking of smart moves, I also decide to vacate the premises.Away I walk into the sticky night.Home bound.
.
I awaken the next day to hear over and over on the news and radio that a winner has not cashed in his lottery ticket yet."There is a lucky person out there" I think to myself,Someone is 25 million dollars richer today. But I sadly think, for a second,"darn I know it is not me".My wife also asks me several times"did you buy a ticket this week?"are you sure?" Nope honey no ticket.

I enter the same bar a week later,I feel a buzz in the air, people seem electrified by someone or something.I order my usual, the king of beers, budweiser.A regular leans over to excitedly tell me that the individual behind us is the grand winner of the lottery. He looks no different than the last time I saw him hand over his key's the week before.Maybe his smile is a bit wider, and there seems to be alot of people milling about him.He wears the same plain clothes,no tux for him on this special day,no limo either.I must say,he has not changed much. Not yet any how.

I am curious how he must feel,I try and think of an intelligent question to ask.The only question I have is"do you think that it is possibly an intervention from a higher power"?"Did it bring you closer to god?He smiles and say's"no but for a split second I was tempted to hand it all over to a children's hospital" I shake his hand and tell him that I will not wash it for a few day's hoping he has blessed me with his great luck.He laughs and walks away into the waiting crowd of friends at his table.
He sends me a shooter drink later on which is called "sicilian kiss".I slam it back, making a mental note to remember what chair he is sitting in!
