A series of haiku from a small town girl's view of the city.
"If Grand Central Station goes, all of the landmarks in this country will go as well. If that happens, we'll live in a world of steel and glass." -- Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

A world of black glass,
buildings jutting, piercing the
sky with screeching scrapes.

Dark, cold, cutting the
bruised rain clouds. In the country
the sky is open,

The rainclouds welcome
as a sign to dance, a sign
for more greenery.

In the city, the
rain is acid – take cover;
shield yourself; it’s a

cold, dead world filled with
buzzing people, not stopping
and bothering to

say hello to one
another, to acknowledge
their lives… Shatter it.

Shatter the world of
glass, dark glass screening within.
What lies hidden?

All is one-sided.
What is within? What secrets
lie inside? No one

speaks – no one reveals
Only peering out – there is
no way to peer within…

Shatter the glass.
