Thoughts on the simple inspiration.
Looking Out a Window on a Rainy Morning

Warm and dry, I peer outside
The window this morn’,
The image uplifts my spirit,
Making me glad to have been born.
Since the coming of the rain
Everything seems fresh and new,
With changed eyes I gaze upon
A canvas drawn anew.
The trees are barren and through
Their branches I can see,
The red brick of the buildings behind,
Overlooking the restless sea.
Still, stubbornly on the trees some few
Remaining lonely leaves exist,
That somehow the fury of the evening’s
Wind and rain did resist.
The hedge beneath my window
Also its leaves retains,
So close to me that I can count
The water droplets that remain.
In the distance over the water
The world dissolves into misty grayness,
A portal to a separate realm
That possesses its own emptiness.
All that separates the one world
From the other is this pane of glass,
An insurmountable obstacle
Only our minds may pass.
