Making the choice to live on my own terms
Lone –star

Is it possible that some of us are meant to be alone ?
I seem to be more comfortable with myself than beside the company of others .
Perhaps I am autistic like those that I teach?
So I stopped searching and began thinking -I need to pause.
Taking a step back may be a way of moving ahead.

So I returned to my caramel brown locks and my evenings of writing and tea.
I began a new way that is clean in spirit and lighter in mind.
It is the company you keep and I rather like my own.
Being with one self does not mean the same as being alone.
It is a state of mind- a label that I have given to this place.

I have decided to be the lone-star of my life .
I will write and let these wounds mend.
I will be the best version I can and I will hold my own hand.
I can smile for myself and won’t need to please or act.
I will rise up and be the phenomenal woman –Maya tells me I can.
