JOURNEY TO HELL

It's a long road we travel on our journey to hell,
there's no turning back, those who travel will tell.
Black as the night and as horrific as it can be,
the devil will claim you and never set you free.

Soon the flickering flames will burn into your skin,
the glow of the embers will invite you to come in.
How could this have happened, how did I go wrong?
The answers all lie deep within an unwritten song.

He was my darling, my true love and my pride,
forever I wanted to be with him, walk by his side.
He had found another, and I never felt so alone.
I vowed I'd have revenge, my heart cold as stone.

I carried a knife that would seal his true destiny,
I would meet him in the hell he had created for me.
He was scum of the earth and I swore I would find
the man who left me and drove me out of my mind.

The end of the song has the flash of my knife,
much better left unwritten, for it is not very nice.
Before I knew it, I was traveling on a dark path,
crying out in vain when I heard the devil's laugh.

I awoke with a start and got down on my knees,
asking God for forgiveness, begging him "Please!"
Beside me, my husband softly moaned in sleep.
Did he feel the fire or hear me as I begin to weep?

Another soul saved, I'm glad that it was my own,
safe in his forgiving arms, I was so glad to be home.
I had to forgive and forget the wrongs of my heart,
or on the journey to hell I would have had to start.

It's a long road we travel on our journey to hell,
there's no turning back, those who travel will tell.
Black as the night and as horrific as it can be,
the devil will claim you and never set you free.
