My mind races while he bends close to whisper in my ear.
Whispers in the darkened room
Whispers in the night
Words that flit along your ears,
Then vanish far from sight.

Words that carry hidden truths
That, sometimes, should stay dark
Words that show you happiness
Or leave you with a mark

Why not say it more loudly?
A hidden meaning there?
Could there be someone listening
Beneath the empty air?

Or softly, for the shame you feel
For slander and untruth.
As if, when speaking quietly,
Our tongues forget misuse.

A whispered word in love can move what angry shouts cannot.
Perhaps a soft word's sweet caress
Will heal what anger wrought.

These fleeting thoughts passed over me
My heart beat and fluttered free
When I felt you bend to whisper
Something softly into me.
