a short poem about the one-sided love affair
You’re not really here

You’re not really here
And I don’t mind
I’m not really conscious
Not most of the time

You have your feet propped up
Your nose high in the air
I used to want what you want
But now I don’t care

I worshipped you
I gazed from behind
But you threw dirt
In my blinded eye

Then you woke up
Cold in your pool of sweat
Tried to crawl back
But, I said “not yet.”

You’re not really here
And I’m no longer crying
I’d say I never cared
But, you know I’d be lying

Someday I’ll really wake up
And I’ll wave bye-bye
You’ll keep yours
And I’ll keep what’s left of mine.
