ALL IN A LIFETIME

It's all in a lifetime, my father used to say.
He spoke of broken dreams and promises
and friends lost somewhere along the way.

His resolve to be strong and not shed a tear,
was melting away, he was not so strong
The tears came unbidden, that much was clear.

Torn from the pages of a well worn book,
was a poem that said it all, every emotion
there in black and white, and his body shook.

Following the car crash that took her life,
he tried hard to go on without her beside him
as the church bell rang out for his wife.

Even with pain and heartache, he must go on.
A wise man knows that loss is just a part of life,
so brief the melody, so bittersweet the song.

It's all in a lifetime, my father used to say.
He spoke of broken dreams and promises
and friends lost somewhere along the way.
