Written 6-9-09. I asked myself the question..."What is poetry"? The poem is my reply.
Poetry Is…

Poetry is the expression of detail
The things overlooked and indifferent
Minor things magnified and embellished
Intricacies taken into measure

Poetry is the constant chatter penned
The beauty of organized confusion
The resolve of the oppressed that repel
Bitterness with kindness

Poetry is the adventure of a kitten
Treading through cramped spaces
Chasing her tail for amusement
The thrill of any movement refining her skill to hunt

Poetry is wearing your heart on you sleeve
Standing firm in you convictions
Accepting everyone may not
Understand you feelings

Poetry is one’s knowing love
Has nothing to do with the beloved
And everything to do with
How love makes you feel

Poetry emerges through action
Action is the manifestation of an idea
Ideas are the seeds nurtured in the minds
Of those who vie for esteem

If poems weren’t written
How would you survive
Being a prisoner of you own words
