This is just me trying to envision the surface of the earth at a time when it was ablaze.
Around a rolling fiery ball
Upon which molten men did crawl

Was life which roamed outside of time
At least much more than yours or mine

In glowing fields they made their place
A freely-flowing, fuming race

Until one day the skies did bring
A rain of stone, a dreadful thing

The stones along with their cohorts
Brought beings of a different sort

Who danced together in the air
Until they fell and brought despair

Upon the heads of magma-men
Who did retreat to deeper dens

Where still they stir and sometimes try
To move once more beneath the sky

But from this flight there comes a shock
Which leaves them as basaltic rock

Encroaching upon granite isles
They halt their march of creeping files

While others but emerge and drown
Beneath the ocean, further down
