She thinks of her lost love.

She thinks of you in sudden flashes,
Tearing forward in her skull like strips of wind;
Like grainy shadows curved in moonlight on her forehead,
Cutting wildly through the volume of her brain.

She feels the rush within her sleep of someone's dreaming,
Like scattered light poured over glass beside a pool.
Like fists of hail from anger clouds above the wheatland,
Pounding passage through the rows and out again.

It is his face on different days that flouds her reason,
Pouring waves of his reminder on her dreams.
In shearing jolts like private screams within a mountain,
Twisting upward toward relief she never feels.

She is the haven for his soul in nature's silence.
A home for memories of the time she must recall.
Like tiny pieces from a life that has been broken,
Bound together in a book she cannot close.
