WRATH OF ANGELS

The aged man set out upon a journey,
feeling the pressure in his arm and chest.
Just one more mile through undergrowth
and back at home he would try to rest.

He had some doubt as to his strength,
for his spirit was worn beyond belief.
He chose this grassy path to follow,
but his blackened heart found no relief.

The path gave way to rough terrain,
to rocks along the pathway to endure.
He looked up and saw the angels then
and how he wished his soul was pure.

He had heard the devil's loud laughter,
knowing that his end was very near.
He would never get to home or Heaven,
to him that was really very, very clear.

Then he raised his eyes up to Heaven, .
and asked for forgiveness from the Lord.
Soon he would see the wrath of angels
that the devil knew could not be ignored.

He felt the cleansing of his soul and saw
the devil waging a war doomed to lose.
The blinding light filled the old man's sight
and knew that he didn't have to choose.

The good Lord heard his plea for mercy
and the battle for souls was never in vain.
He would give the man a second chance,
take away the old man's grief and pain.

It took the wrath of angels to save him,
for the devil to crawl off in bitter defeat.
The old man's tears became a blessing
and seeing his home was bittersweet.

Close to death the old man had ventured,
but for the miracle he would have died.
Now his only prayer was for his salvation,
with his Lord he would one day abide.
