Dylan may push his luck when he lets Roxie risk her water allergy.
Of course Kayla got the most luck out of the party, getting to kiss Justin when Brittany missed her chance with Brandon but the next day they were to meet for show jumping, surely Brittany could get 1 over on Kayla.
They met at 11:00am and Brittany had a new outfit for Kayla, they had to be at the paddock for 12:00pm, they were meeting Victoria there and Brandon came along for the ride.
There was a bit of contemplation in the limousine.

Kayla:
I have to admit that I’m dead nervous.
Brittany:
After what you did last night.
Kayla:
It completely wasn’t ’ my fault; he came on to me and talked nonstop about kissing me so I had no choice but to let him.
Brandon:
At least you’ll have something to tempt Christopher with.
Brittany:
And we didn’t even get the chance.
Brandon:
You wouldn’t even date me, it was just a convenience.
Brittany:
I know I said I was too busy with start of school but maybe we were going in the right direction.
Brandon:
I’m not rushing into anything, I’m here to look after my best friend on her nerve racking 1st day at the stables, she will be fantastic but not without a little encouragement, she’d do the same for me.
Kayla:
I’m glad you did, I can’t handle the new found pressure,
Brandon:
I understand, you had no idea of Justin’s plans, you’re new to being a socialite, you’re still very vulnerable and I say take care.
Brittany:
My Justin is very popular in his high school but if you feel he’s a threat then he is history.
Kayla:
I’d give him another chance but I still have a horse to come to light with and the difficulty of how to play Netball on Monday.
Brittany:
Trust me you’ll be a natural, I helped Victoria learn and now she’s a beacon of light, what can I say just put your faith in me and you can’t go wrong.
Kayla:
And she turned out a natural?
Brittany:
Yes she did.
Brandon:
And still only Joshua will date her.
Kayla:
That’s because she’s temperamental.
Brandon:
Agreed.
Brittany:
And that’s why she’s my best friend.
Brandon:
It seems that there is possibility of us arriving too early.
Brittany:
We need time for Kayla to meet everyone.
Kayla:
Thank-you but I don’t like being pushed in at the deep end.
Brittany:
It’s the only way you’ll learn.
Brandon:
I still consider it a bit harsh.
Brittany:
My method will work, it’s unconditional.
Kayla:
Leave her to it Brandon.
Brandon:
OK but if it all goes wrong, don’t come running to me.
Brittany:
And you had the nerve to call me harsh.
Kayla:
It’s alright; us girls will stick together,
Brittany:
Indeed we will.
Brandon:
Some girl she is, it’s all an act, the hair is clipped in, she’s dressed all strange and Brittany it’s all your fault.
Brittany:
I am trying to help her, you’re just a little jealous that she may be a little more popular than you.
Brandon:
At least I did it on my own; Kayla needed help to become popular.
Brittany:
Some make better starts than others, I think you 2 just need to hold on and things will sort themselves out.
Kayla:
But my best friend can’t handle me.
Brittany:
Give him time.
Kayla:
I’m way too busy.
Brandon:
Those new friends can’t attend to themselves.
Kayla:
There not jealous of me, they’re happy I’ve changed and they’re happy for me, maybe not Stephanie but I’m trying with her.
Brandon:
I can work on her if you want.
Kayla:
I’ll manage, what else can I do?
Brandon:
We’ll get through it as a group, surely Brittany would agree.
Brittany:
I agree.
Brandon:
But there’s still a boy underneath that disguise.
Brittany:
I now think she has the earned the right to call herself a girl, she’s pushed herself so far she won’t stop now.
Kayla:
I’m proud of my determination and promised I wouldn’t let you down.
Brandon:
And still I don’t feel I fit in anymore.
Brittany:
I said my plans involved both of you, it may be tricky juggling all of life’s priorities but there must be a schedule to keep everybody happy.
Kayla:
Aren’t things chaos enough as it is, what with the horse riding, Gymnastics, Netball and I don’t think you’ll stop there.
Brittany:
For the time being I will, we have to leap over 1 hurdle at a time.
Kayla:
I have no intent on joining the Athletics team.
Brittany:
I never wanted you to, it a metaphorical statement, it means 1 thing needs to be accomplished before I can push you harder.
Brandon:
And don’t you feel Kayla is confused enough, let’s stop this political jargon and just enjoy the moment.
The limousine carried on to the stables and silence had finally crept over meaning the rest of the journey was a lot more easy going.

Dylan has been invited to Roxie’s house just a 10 minute bus ride away.
Roxie wanted Dylan to give her a guided tour of Canberra.
Roxie:
Welcome, how are you this lovely morning?
Dylan:
Brilliant.
Roxie:
As I’m new I fancied having a detailed look round, can you show me the cool places and sorry I overrated Queensland.
Dylan:
It’s understandable; I’ll happily give you a guided tour.
Roxie:
Then you name the destination; you know the area better than me.
Dylan:
Let’s go to Canberra bus station, then we can decide from them.
Roxie;
Shouldn’t we take a grown up, I’ve never used public transport by myself before.
Dylan:
I know I’m confident enough so I can take care of you, I’ll make sure you’re my main concern.
Roxie:
I’m glad to hear it.
Dylan:
We could go to Canberra Aquarium
Roxie:
That sounds good, I know a good recommendation when hear it so how do we get there?
Dylan:
You take the 53 bus to the centre, then the 149 bus to the destination.
Roxie:
Do you know how frequent they are?
Dylan:
I’m not sure; I’ll go and search for a timetable.
Roxie:
You certainly know what you are doing.
Dylan goes over to the lounge and shouts to Roxie.
Dylan:
Where do you keep bus timetables?
Roxie:
We don’t have any, I’ve never used public transport since I’ve arrived.
Dylan:
Then that settle it, you'll have to come over to mine 1st.
Roxie:
Will it take long,
Dylan:
No, there should be a bus due now.
Roxie:
Then I’ll put on my coat and shoes and we can be off.
Dylan:
Off to my house it is.
Dylan and Roxie hop on the bus and across to his house, he picked up the bus timetables and off they went to Canberra Bus Station.
They arrived and the place was chaos, Roxie decided to pick up some maps from the tourist information centre.
Dylan:
We need bus 5 to Canberra Aquarium and it leaves in 13 minutes.
Roxie:
I shall pick up a bottle of water from the shop over there.
Dylan:
Did you get all the maps you could?
Roxie:
Yes, I can’t over pack my backpack too much.
Dylan:
Then on to buying water it is, I need a drink for the journey as well, I hope you manage to bring some money because that place look pricey.
Roxie:
I can tell a con merchant a mile away, if we wanted cheaper drinks we could buy them ourselves or go into town to get them but we’re in a tight schedule so full speed ahead to the shop over there.
As Dylan and Roxie went to the shop to purchase drinks for their journey, Roxie was wondering what she was doing parent free in the middle of Canberra, you wouldn’t get this sort of behaviour back in Queensland.
Dylan:
I am glad you have made the right choice and came with me, I didn’t want to go by myself.
Roxie:
Where is Kayla today?
Dylan:
Brittany took her horse riding along with Brandon so she’s out of the picture.
Roxie:
I’m not worried about her, she’s 3 years older than you but you’re still friends after all and I’ll be happy to give her a chance now I know she’s no threat.
Dylan:
Let’s get out of here and catch that bus.
Roxie:
Yes we should and I think the crystal can agree with that.
Roxie’s crystal was lit up pink and that meant she was absolutely safe to catch the bus with Dylan to Canberra Aquarium
They got on the bus and went to find a seat.
Roxie:
Now we’re aboard, how long will the journey take?
Dylan:
At least 55 minutes, we’re meant to get there by mid morning.
Roxie:
That’s a while, at least I bought a book to pass the time.
Dylan:
We could always talk.
Roxie:
I wouldn’t know what happens will I.
Dylan:
Write to a TV company and get it on TV, if it isn’t already.
Roxie:
You’ve got a point.
Dylan:
I have had lots of practise.
Roxie:
So what made you choose the place we are going?
Dylan:
I wanted to test your brain like never before, we all have the power to be fascinated.
Roxie:
And believe me I wouldn’t let you down.
Dylan:
I wouldn’t disturb you for a second.
Roxie:
Well we can always enjoy the journey, just you and me together alone for once, can’t you just feel the chemistry between us.
Dylan:
I don’t have a crush on you maybe you’re just over exaggerating, I just want to be a loyal friend that’s all, I don’t want to jump the bandwagon.
Roxie:
I had no intention of anything else, it just worried me that’s all, I know we are friends and that’s the way it’ll stay.
Dylan:
I hope you don’t feel isolated but we’re only 12, we are hardly ready for dating, most of those 11th graders aren’t, it’s just some feel they have the time and some don’t.
Roxie:
Brittany sure know what she is doing.
Dylan:
Being head prefect, she has no choice on the matter, people look up to her for guidance and commitment and she has to follow through.
Roxie:
Still there is no reason to go to extremes.
Dylan:
No there isn’t but for some reason every boy likes her.
Roxie:
And Brandon is just pushed along?
Dylan:
He likes her as well but he was hardly well known and she didn’t take risks so to get her to like him he joined the Soccer team and she asked him to a party last night.
Roxie:
And what was the result?
Dylan:
I do not know, I haven’t seen them, they’re out this morning, I’ll leave it ‘til Monday.
Roxie:
And I thought gossip was easy to come by.
Dylan:
Maybe during the week but at weekend it doesn’t come easily, I could ring Kayla but I don’t want to disrupt her, she is starting horse riding lessons today.
Dylan and Roxie continued on their journey to Canberra Aquarium, Brittany, Brandon and Kayla arrived at the stables just in time for the mad rush, Brittany left Kayla ad Brandon whilst she went to search for Victoria.
Brandon:
I think someone is coming towards us.
Kayla:
What shall I do?
Brandon:
Well she is in riding gear, they’re probably coming over here to see you.
That’s exactly what happened and a girl with long pigtails in ribbons came over.
Kayla:
Hello, can I help you?
Samantha:
Yes, my name is Samantha and I’m 14 and I’m in the riding group.
Kayla:
That’s good.
Samantha:
Have you seen Brittany?
Kayla:
Yes, I came with her and she went of somewhere.
Samantha:
Are you the girl she’s been talking about?, but really you can’t be, you’re nothing like the description I was given.
Kayla:
Yes you’re correct, I am the girl Brittany has been going on about but I am different now.
Samantha:
Then I’m pleased to welcome you here.
Kayla:
Thank-you, I’m Kayla by the way and this is Brandon.
Samantha:
It’s a shame he’s not here for riding because he’s cute.
Brandon:
Thanks I get that a lot.
Samantha:
Can I give you a guided tour.
Kayla:
That would be very hospitable of you, you’re so kind for being friends to the new girl.
Samantha:
It’s a pleasure, is Brandon your best friend.
Kayla:
Yes.
Brandon:
And proud to be.
Samantha:
Have you ever kissed him?
Kayla:
No but Brittany attempted to last night.
Samantha:
And to me information like that is gold dust.
Brandon:
She meant nothing by it.
Samantha:
That means I can have you.
Brandon:
We’ll have to see.
Samantha:
I’ll settle for that, now let’s start the tour.
Samantha led Kayla and Brandon to the tack room.
She showed them a bridle and how top put it on a horse.
Kayla liked the sound of this maybe horses weren’t as scary as she had anticipated.
Brandon stroked a Shetland pony but Kayla was refusing to lay a finger on the creature.
Samantha:
I know this can be pressurising, I’ve been here 4 years so I know what I am doing, I’m sure they’ll find you a horse that’s not too much trouble.
Kayla:
That would sure help.
Brandon:
I don’t want to ride, I’m just here to watch Kayla.
Samantha:
Watch how I get on my horse and you’ll see it as easy as pie.
Samantha climbed on her horse; a grey stallion 12hh in height and with the most adorable smile.
Samantha:
See that was easy.
Brandon:
You’re right.
Kayla:
I’m still unsure.
Brandon:
You have right to be.
Samantha:
Do you want me to help you?
Kayla:
Yes
Samantha:
Then I’ll go and get a plastic box and did I mention how pretty you look Kayla?
Kayla:
No but thank-you.
Samantha goes to get a plastic box to help Kayla, she returns and puts it next to her horse.
Samantha:
Now jump on the box and that’s step 1 to getting on a horse.
Kayla follows through and stands on the plastic box.
Kayla:
What do I do next?
Samantha:
You hoist 1 leg onto the horse
Kayla:
I don’t know, he may move when I do this.
Samantha:
Trust me.
Brandon watched as his hesitant friend was having several regrets.
Samantha:
I know you can do this, Brittany’s hard works and effort on you needs to pay off so climb Kayla climb.
Kayla lifted 1 leg up onto the horse.
Samantha:
Now put that leg to the other side of the horse and lift your other leg onto the horse.
Kayla:
I am doing it and if only Brittany was here to see this.
Brittany comes in the stables along with Victoria.
Brittany:
Oh there you 2 are.
Samantha:
It’s OK, I’m teaching Kayla how to mount.
Brittany:
Thank-you for helping but I can kind of deal with my own protégé.
Kayla:
Samantha was just giving me and Brandon a tour of the grounds as you went off, keep quiet please while I finish mounting.
Kayla lifts her leg across the horse and the other 1 onto the horse.
Samantha:
Now turn around and face to the front of the horse.
Kayla did as Samantha’s instructions told her.
Samantha:
Very good, with a bit of patience I can see you going far, anyway let’s get out of the stables and get ready for lessons to begin.
Brittany:
I’m impressed Kayla.
Kayla:
See, being nice and can build my confidence.
Brittany:
As long as she doesn’t go to close to my Brandon then she shouldn’t be a problem.
Kayla:
I like her and Brandon can crush on anyone he likes, there is an open market.
Brandon:
I like 2 girls fighting over me, it certainly makes me happier.
Kayla:
And I’m glad I’m not in the middle of that.
Samantha:
I’ll have him, Brittany you missed your change last night to kiss him so I think he should be mine now.
Brittany:
Give me a change, I made 1 mistake but I was overshadowed by Kayla and my cousin Justin.
Samantha:
OK I’ll give you that but hurry along, I won’t wait forever for him so take your chance whilst you can.
Victoria:
Calm down, there’s more to life than boys.
Brittany:
You sure looked happy dancing with Joshua and you were happy with the distraction.
Victoria:
I can’t deny that but the horses don’t like us getting distracted.
Brittany:
They must understand, surely they must understand.
Kayla:
I don’t know, the chimpanzee is pretty intelligent and that must mean the horse has some human characteristics.
Brittany:
I think you’ll fit in well round here.
They all headed outside for the start of lessons, Kayla stood almost behind Brittany as to avoid being startled by the horses and to avoid being noticed.
A tall man with short brown hair entered with a clipboard and paper; his name was Gerald.
Gerald:
Now welcome back from your summer vacation, I’d like to welcome you all to a new season in which we will achieve great things and I also have to stay that we have a new girl, her name is Kayla Magpie and we want to hear all about her.
Kayla:
Hello, I’m a little shy and I’m completely new to this sport, I’ve seen show jumping on the television but that’s all.
Gerald:
Do you know anything so we know where to start.
Kayla:
Samantha taught me how to mount on a horse.
Gerald:
That’s excellent, step 1 is complete, now we move on to the most exciting moment because it’s time to give you your horse.
Samantha:
So soon?
Brittany:
Before you’ve done the register.
Gerald:
Fine, I’ll read out your name and you answer here and then we’ll give Kayla her horse.
Gerald read out the names on the piece of paper and everyone answered, there was no absentees so Gerald then took the group to the stables to reveal Kayla’s horse.
Gerald:
Now me and Brittany picked this horse for you, he’s white, 11hh in height and he is called Surprise, don’t you think he’s adorable.
Kayla:
He’ll suit me down to a tee so thank-you Brittany and guy in charge.
Brittany:
His name is Gerald and believe me without him, this place would fall to rack and ruin.
Gerald:
Oh, you’re too kind.
Samantha:
And I feel she is just after extra merit.
Kayla:
It is just the way she is.
Samantha:
I know but sometimes she tries to hard.
Gerald:
Back into the yard, if we have time later we can let Kayla take her horse out.
Gerald and the group headed back outside to the paddock.
Gerald:
Who wants to show Kayla how we make our horse gallop?
Samantha:
I will.
Gerald:
Samantha, it is good to see you offering to help.
Samantha mounted on her horse and showed Kayla how to gallop round the paddock.
Gerald:
Impressive.
Brittany:
That was nothing, I could probably do more that that, up for some competition Samantha.
Samantha:
Of course I am.
Brittany:
Here are the rules, we go twice round the course, start with a slow trot and finish with a canter.
Samantha:
I accept that and may the fastest girl win.
Kayla:
Is this always happening.
Gerald:
I’m afraid it is.
With Brittany and Samantha on their horses, Gerald blows his whistle.
Gerald:
On your marks, get set go.
The girls set off, Brittany manages to overtake Samantha, then Samantha gets in front, it’s tight through the end of the 1st lap but the race is over when 1 of the girls crosses the finishing line and Gerald blows his whistle again.
Gerald:
We have a clear winner and that is Samantha.
Samantha:
Next time you’ll eat your words if you try to challenge me again Brittany.
Brittany:
I was only showing off, I apologise.
Gerald:
I want to see everyone on their horses practising how to gallop.
Everyone leaped aboard and practised for 15 minutes straight then dismounting at the end.
Gerald:
It’s been nice seeing you all here and maybe next week we’ll start Kayla on practising with her horse, you all did very well and Brittany stop winding up Samantha.
Everyone headed back to the stables to put their horse away.

Samantha:
Do you have time to come to the lounge for a quick drink?
Brittany:
Yes, I’m sure my driver won’t mind.
Samantha, Brittany, Brandon and Kayla headed to the lounge.
Kayla:
What do you do in this place?
Brittany:
We just hang around after our riding lessons.
Brandon:
That sounds cool, what did you do today.
Samantha:
Brittany challenged me to a competition with no notice at all, she put me under pressure.
Brandon:
She can be like that at times, a cruel nature runs through her.
Kayla:
She has her good moments, look at what she did to me.
Samantha:
I can let her off for that.
Kayla:
I always said that the girly-girls should stick together once and for all.
Samantha:
Agreed.

They all had drinks then said their goodbyes.
Brandon, Brittany and Kayla headed to the car park to get the limousine to drive them home.
Kayla felt she had learned something and as for Brittany she still hated Samantha for trying to steal Brandon, at least they could forget all about it for another week.
