Media Activity Log
Reflecting on my media log, I’ve discovered that I spend 80% of my time on the internet. While on the internet, I constantly check my E-mails, access Facebook, research, watch movies and view videos. I find that happens quite often in my day to day life. I really have no need to watch TV Anymore. Leave that to the kids. My radios haven’t been touched in sometime. Yet and still my reason for using the internet amazed me. I barely read the paper. I love to chat on line with my sister.
Instead of using my phone to contact my long distant relatives and friends. Including friends and relative here in Rochester. I use the Internet. I have seen a dramatic difference in my phone bill. My sister from Chicago Illinois first contacted me there. Me and her have not spoken to each other in over 15 years, or seen each other for over 20 years. Seem as though time flies. We made this our form of communication We rarely call one another anymore. Her and me have our way of communicating now. Just last week I got in contact with my dad’s nephew. We haven’t seen each other since my dad’s funeral in 2003. I have nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews I chat with. To chat with them is a joy, I never feel alone. It doesn’t matter what time of day or night I can rely on someone to talk to. We have not met physically but we are connected on other way.
Since our discovery we have exchanged number, pictures, laughs, and love. We send links. My niece in Louisiana sends me videos of my great nephew’s basketball games. She sent me a link to their newspaper where I was able to him Athlete of the Week. I was thankful to reach an E-Mail stating he won with. It included pictures of him at a game and when he did his acceptance speech. Later I received the video. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the Internet. Without the Internet Facebook wouldn’t be possible. I also have friends that send me thing via E-Mail. Which leads me to check my E-Mail regularly? That’s on or off Facebook. I also have the pleasure of sending pictures, videos , or just a simple hi. When time allows I send everyone my own personal current events. Most of all I love my chats.
I find my time chatting, viewing videos, and movies educational and empowering. There will be times when you reach news of all sorts. From all over the world. You would not believe some of the things I have seen and learned. I saw a movie the other day. It was called Choose. I noticed over 10 product placements in this movie. After we learned about it in class it became clearer to me. Which opened my eyes to something to another enlightening detail. The movie actually had a wonderful concept. I know someone in your life told you to be careful of the choices you make. So decisions you make in life can be your biggest regret. Something I had completely forgotten about. Upon viewing videos, I am updated on the latest trends. That I find helpful cause my oldest son is really into fashion and music. In fact that’s something we all enjoy like to stay up to date with the latest hair styles. A lot of this is done through Face book. I have many friend there that’s into fashion and producing.
While all this is good I still see things I would like to change about my media consumption. Media tends to affect my personal life. Till now I didn’t realize how much. Beside the small activities I get to do between the Internet and my daily chores It seems I hardly ever spend time with the kids. Sometime we watch movies together but it’s not the same. My overall reflection of this is something can be eliminated. No need to sit in front of an computer all day to have a conversation with someone. Al though I do enjoy them. There is an inconvenience
