about a woman starting her new life as a college student
This was the first day of her new life and she was exhausted, Maisey picked up her latte from the coffee counter and collapsed in a heap into the wooden ladder back chair next to the window. For most people in the café it was a normal weekday from what Maisey could tell, the woman in the corner was talking on her cell phone neglecting the toddler sitting at her table who was blowing bubbles into her chocolate milk. There is a man in a boring black suit trying to look like he is working but he is only filling in blanks to today’s crossword puzzle. She couldn’t help but check out everyone around her before Maisey could concentrate on the task before her.

This is the same café that Maisey started her day at many hours ago and now it is where she will finish her day after a long day school. She closes her eyes and sips the sweet dark coffee before she starts her goal of finishing all her homework before returning to her quiet studio apartment. Maisey grabs her canvas messenger bag and hefts it up to her lap, she pulls out her expensive textbook and a new spiral notebook that she has already filled 5 pages with notes from today’s class. It has been years since she has set foot in a classroom so Maisey wrote down everything that her teachers said or wrote on the chalkboard.

For a place that is filled with caffeine infused air molecules the customers were very subdued and grumpy. This time of night the baristas were exhausted and ready to close up shop for the night, the customers were just looking for a place to hide out with having to go home yet for their various reasons. Maisey knew that if she headed home right after school she would find her bed and not get up again until the next morning when she needed to start her day all over again. So this straight back chair and java colored table were there to prop Maisey up and support her through her first night of homework in years.

The morning started full of jitters, nerves, caffeine, and a full tank of gas, after a full day on campus in 4 different classrooms, Maisey needed a pick me up. The strong roast of coffee started to infuse her blood stream to wake her up and to give Maisey the strength she needed to get through her evening.
