Remembering what was lost
teardrops hit the floor with
a sound so hollow, ringing in my ears,
so eager to follow, it echoes, so loud,
distant and unforgiving, hitting the walls only
to bounce back at me with a force so strong, it
brings me down upon my knees, bringing out faded memories
of broken promises and tear-stained catastrophies
a side of me I want to forget
a desire for the truth, deadly it may be,
searching for the reason inside why I let this
happen to us, to the you and me
that was supposed to survive until all
the stars died, but when the tears
started streaming down
they fell on the flame until it finally went
out, and now we've fallen and I'm
broken on the ground, wondering if
anything, anything at all, could've
saved us, could've stopped our fall
before we became a thing of the past
broken dreams and secrets that were never meant to last
