A young boy saves his village by leaping into the flame of the enemy.
Shade of the Fire

The boy was Shade,

A boy of five years,

Never knowing pain,

Never showing tears.

His parents loved him,

They held him tight,

Until the trembling

Came through the night.

The fifes were playing,

Drumming came near,

A choral murmur,

Of the town’s fear.

The parents of Shade ran,

Ran through the street

The conquerors were coming

Too fast for her bare feet

Shade saw the warriors

The flags flying high,

Screaming, he leaped

Through the darkening night sky.

Leader of villains

Holds firm in his gain,

But cannot see Shade

Leap in the crimson flame.

The villagers stumbled,

The advancers were stone

The crimson flamed torch

Killed one of their own.

The villains ran

From town unknown

And from the ashes

Was the dead hero shown.

If you listen closely

You may be inspired

To see the stars tell

Of Shade of the Fire.
