Reflections of an old woman; memories of a lover who has gone into eternity.
Some Goodbyes Never Come (An Old Woman)

An old woman thinks back
to a time of smiles
Of innocence or
of days gone wild.

Smiling as if
A secret is known
Of a devious plan,
Or seeds she's sown.

The reds and blues
Of flowers seen,
Of childhood whims
And millions of dreams

Of lover's freedoms
Of days "locked in."
Taking her heart to where
Only fantasies had been.

She remembers false loves,
And only one ever true,
That very first glance
When both he and she knew

That unique peace
Only few ever find,
A dream became real.
True love's never blind.

They'd talk about nature
and the sky's many hues,
of things they'd done
And what they wanted to do.

Never, ever one time
Were angry words said.
Their chattering always positive
Like in fairy tales read.

Then one day her smile faded
From her face evermore.
When one day after work
She walked through home's door.

On the news it was told
Her lover was killed.
His heart now lies cold.
Love eternally stilled.

But today she still smiles
Though her heart's always numb.
She had one Special Hello
But the Goodbye didn't come.
