together yet apart
we sit
the action over
the volume muted into memory
of anger spewed in fire
spoken in daggers
to wound
to scar

you haven’t moved
with every breath
our elbows brush
and I remind my fingers to freeze
and I wish
for your arm around my shoulder
to warm me
to ward off tears
but if I shatter first
you’ll know how close your words came
you’ll know the power you have
to destroy me

echoes of untamed truths
shout doubts behind my eyes
drown any certainty of my worth
or your love

we sit
wrapped in toxic
silence
