Entry for the Dear Me contest and all of my writing goals for the coming year.
Dear Me,

What a year 2011 was! My husband got a new job in Indiana while I stayed behind in Virginia to sell our house. And what a wonderful house it was; we thought it would sell in weeks. 10 months later it finally sold and was closed upon on December 28th. Once the house sold, I retired from my job of 26 years to begin my writing life in earnest.
This brought me to Indiana on January 1st 2012. What better date to restart my entire life?
So what do I plan for myself in this wonderful new year?
For 2012 I will begin finding my pace for daily writing and living. I am starting my new schedule by getting mundane chores done and out of the way early after rising, then devoting the rest of the morning to writing.
By “writing” I mean anything related to writing whether it be actual pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, or editing, or reviewing and critiquing, or strolling through the internet looking for ways to become a better writer, getting or giving help on Writing.com, or reading articles or books devoted to writing advice.
I have also been looking into how to put my worthy words into formats that will guide them into people’s hands (and e-readers) as I feel this is one worthy way to get my name out into the public view.
Also, I will scan for writing contests to submit to as well as online magazines, real world magazines, and into the hands of editors.
I belong to Writing.com as well as two other critiquing venues as I feel that critting other works will not only expose me to different styles of writing, but also will help me with editing skills that I can then apply to my own works.
Not to mention allowing me to meet other writers and forming networks that may become invaluable as time goes on.
By the end of 2012 I hope to have had some success with getting some short stories published, thus giving me a portfolio to show editors as I go on in my writing career.
