Waiting can seem like an eternity. For some, it is.
War Bride

The rising wind carries away my voice.
You canot hear my whisper,
"Goodnight," to you.
Outside, the chimes reach a cresendo.

There is a ring around the moon,
Like a drawstring tightening around my neck,
Clutching at my heart -
While we're apart.

The nights are longer now.
Only the shadows to keep me company.
I tell them my deepest thoughts.
They say nothing and in silence, go away.

I sleep less and dream by day.
