The pilot script for a radio show based on an absent minded scientist on the run.
Narrator:

“Welcome to the first ever Audio Adventures of Professor Oliver. We would like to take this time to make it known that this recorded log is a work of fiction. We take you now to just outside the small town of Kligton, where a young man is being chased by bounty hunters.”

Sounds of footsteps on dirt and grass. Small man running from unknown source. Ambient outside sounds including insect. Man runs through door, slamming it behind him. Light crowd noise, soft piano music. Young man is breathing heavily.

Bartender:

“Welcome, stranger. Care for a drink?”

Footsteps up to bar and hands slamming on the counter.

Man:

“Is there a bathroom in here? I really got to use the…”

Sound of door slamming open and medium gun cocking.

Bounty hunter 1:

“Now hold it right there, Professor. We don’t want to shoot ya. You’re worth a lot more money to us alive.”

Man:

“Please, you’ve got to believe me, I’m not who you guys are looking for.”

Sound of shotgun cocking.

Bounty hunter 2:

“Then why were you runnin?”

Footsteps.

Professor Oliver:

“Because, my good man, no sane person would stand still at the sight of a gun barrel drawn on them. If you please, lower your weapons. I’m sure we can solve this in a civil manner.”

Bounty hunter 1:

“Listen, we’re here to collect this guy and the bounty on his head. Now go back to your drink and let us do our job.”

Professor Oliver:

“Now if this man says he is not the person you are looking for, what is it that makes you sure he is?”

Clicking sound.

Bounty hunter 2:

“I’d say that’s proof he’s the man we’re after.”

Man:

“Ok, put your guns down and move slowly toward the back of the bar.”

Heavy metal thuds as their weapons are set on the wooden floor.

Man:

“Now move, all of you.”

Bounty hunter 2

“You see? He’s got one of them weird weapons. Who knows what he’s gonna do with it.”

Professor Oliver:

“I’ll tell you what he’s going to do.”

Footsteps toward the man.

Professor Oliver:

“Absolutely nothing, that’s what.”

Man:

“Hey, what are you doing?”

Sound of one person disarming another of their firearm.

Professor Oliver:

“And if you’re going to steal my inventions, it might help you if you figured out how they worked. Such as positioning the stabilizer pin before arming the core.”

Sound of small pin placing, clicking sound, then low hum.

Professor Oliver:

“Now I suggest you join the other gentlemen at the back of the bar.”

Soft, slow footsteps moving.
More footsteps toward bar.

Professor Oliver:

“I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I’ll have to take my leave early. This should cover the cost of refreshments.”

Coins dropping on wooden counter.

Professor Oliver:

“Thank you again, and I suggest none of you leave this bar for the next half hour. It may not look it but this weapon has a very substantial range. Farewell.”

Door opening then closing. Footsteps forward, then collecting weapons.

Bounty hunter 1:

“Dang it, he got away.”

Bounty hunter 2:

“You know, I think we got the wrong guy.”

Long pause.
Footsteps in dirt, slow walk. Second pair joins in.

Professor Oliver:

“So Horace, did you find the parts I asked you to get?”

Horace:

“I tried, but this place is scrap for anything. There’s nothing here besides rust and stale exhaust. We’d better move on to the next city. Anything interesting happen at the bar?”

Professor Oliver:

“Horace, when you live the life of Professor Otto Oliver, everything is interesting.”

Exit music.

Narrator:

This concludes our evening broadcast. Tune in next week for the continuation of Professor Oliver’s Audio Adventures!
