He was running from his own shadow.
He is trapped by his own shadow,
his past haunts every step;
He never can stop running,
for his shadow would catch up.

It drags him back into the dark,
to a black and evil fate--
he's starting to succumb to it,
there is not a chance of escape.

He tries to outrun his shadow,
but it's nipping at his heels;
His shadow is becoming solid,
his nightmares are becoming real.

He trips on every pebble,
yet still he stumbles on;
He runs 'cause hell's behind him,
he will 'till hell has gone.

He casts a wild glance around,
and starts to curse or pray;
He looks for demons or angels one;
but which, I cannot say.

There's just one question left to ask,
and the answer will define us all:
Was he running towards the light,
Or was darkness all he saw?
