a poem about football that my cousin wanted me to write
Brotherhood
By: Casey Hansen
(Inspired by Joey Jackson)

To watch is not the same concept
I sit on the couch with him, gazing at the screen
The need arises from deep inside of me

When I play, I become a different person
It starts when I step out onto the field
The lights are on me; I’m the star of the show

Everything that I have worked for
In the 100 degrees summer sun
All comes down to this moment

We give it all-our sweat; our blood;
our body;
our heart
Until the final score
All for winning the game

I cherish the rush in my adrenaline
And my strength pushes me forward
I am nothing if not the sport

I realize that it means more than wearing a helmet
It’s more than about wearing the jersey
It’s about a brotherhood
