The hardest kind of love is unrequited love.
I love you.

I really tried not to

you didn’t want me to

you said you weren’t good enough

that you could never love me like you should.


I love you.

I said it so many times

that we both lost count

so many times that you couldn’t catch up

even when you realized you loved me.


I love you.

It happened too late for me

that return of a sentiment so sweet

a commitment of the soul

between us.


I loved you.

I knew I did

perhaps too much

and now all I have to show:

a few splinters of a once whole heart.
