An elimination fight to the death.
Two knights jousting

just words

In the days of yore, the bravest knights would compete against each other in a test of their fighting skills.

These contests called tournaments consisted of two main events; the Joust a one on one battle fought on horseback, and the Melee a giant free for all in which the last man standing was declared the victor.

Here is a chance for the eight most courageous and honourable WDC members to test their writing mettle in one on one literary combat... to the death.

The first event will be the Joust. Eight competitors will face off in four one on one battles, each pair writing to a randomly selected prompt. At the conclusion of each round, one writer will emerge as victor. The other will be rendered hors de combat. Eventually there will be only one competitor left to accept vast sums of GP's as well as the awed respect of the assembled peasantry.

knight and his lady

The prize? In medieval times a knight who was defeated in a joust would forfeit his horse and armour to the victor. These days not many people have horses and armour, especially writers, who are generally very poor! With this in mind, I have amassed a treasury that would embarrass many of Europe's kings

If there are 8 competitors, the prizes will be as follows:

In the first round, each winner will recieve 1000gp and each eliminated jouster will recieve 500gp.

In the second round, each winner will receive 2,500gp and each eliminated jouster will receive 1000gp.

In the third and final round, the Grand winner will receive 50,000gp and the runner up will receive 10,000gp.

If there are 16 competitors, the prizes will be as follows:

In the first round, each winner will receive 1000gps and each eliminated jouster will recieve 500gps

In the second round, each winner will receive 2,500gps and the eliminated jouster will receive 1000gps.

In the third round, each winner will receive 5,000gps and the eliminated jousters will receive 2,500gps.

In the fourth and final round, the winner will receive 50,000gps and the eliminated jouster will receive 10,000gps.

If you have the courage and honour to compete, the first eight WDC members to express their interest by posting their best medieval nom de plume in the forum will be guaranteed entry. I am hoping we will get sixteen competitors, for a real literary bloodbath
