A short poem created for the Seniors Group August poetry contest
A LIFE TO LIVE

As time progresses, still we stay
Determined on another day
Each day a new beginning brings
We talk and hope, we laugh and pray

In truth, our friends will leave us here
We grieve for those we held so dear
With fond regrets we travel on
Our faith and courage stem the fear

We can’t submit to fear and woe
These are the danger, these the foe
So face the future clothed in hope
To strengthen us in what we know

We live our lives by our own choice
And need not heed another’s voice
Our meanings come from who we are
If we succeed, we can rejoice

The purpose of our life we find
When we can leave the past behind
And live each day in here and now
With love and faith and hope entwined

The weary world will grant no rest
So we must dare to be our best
Our very best is just enough
To meet the challenge of each test

No heaven waits, nor hell below
No rapture, no eternal woe
We need to love without restraint
To be at peace when we must go
