Poem about hiding yourself from those who are supposed to be closest to you.
She faked a smile everyday
Sometimes she even fooled herself;
Fooled herself into thinking
She was happy and okay

Deep down inside she knew,
She wasn’t okay.
For years she hadn’t been,
That didn’t just go away

The new “friends”
They only knew part of her
She was terrified to reveal
To them who she really was

Would they shun her?
Would they accept her?
The insecurity tug of war
And the pure agony of not knowing

They stopped her
From revealing her deep book of secrets
To those who called her “friend”
The feeling of deceit haunting her always

She fools all
Including herself
Into believing she’s happy
But, deep down, she’s not

She hasn’t been for a very long time…
