Something I have realised about the human system that I want to share with others
Lucy sat in front of Doctor William looking as sober as a withered vegetable. She had just been diagnosed of diabetes. Not that she was surprised anyway. Everyone had been warning her that with the rate, at which she ate junks and all sorts of unhealthy meals, she was going to go down with diabetes soon but she never listened. Now she was just faced with the reality of having to spend so much on drugs, insulin shots and constant check-ups. She was extremely overweight which made it much more difficult for her to do any form of exercise. Those chocolates and fries were sweet and in fact they were even interesting, but they were gradually killing her ‘poco a poco’.
Lucy looked at herself and asked the same question that almost everyone in similar condition would ask ‘how did I get into these mess, I could have prevented this’. She was all full of regrets remembering every single piece of chocolate and sugars that she shouldn’t have eaten. The truth is that what one feeds his/her body determines what it produces. Our feeding determines our health to a very large extent. One truth we fail to realize is that a good food cannot be replaced with anything, and no matter how little, junks have an adverse effect on our health.

Just as terrible as Lucy felt sitting directly opposite Dr. William so will Jenny, Sade, Wale, Tolu, Tola, you and even me, if we keep up with the rubbish that we feed on every time. The most interesting thing is that as it is in the physical so is it in the spiritual. What you feed your spirit and soul would determine whether you are going to be malnourished, undernourished, sick, or even starved to death spiritually.
However, it is a great pity that the world has provided us with spiritual junks to feed our souls and spirit, things that are seemingly sweet but disastrous to our spiritual health. What do I mean by spiritual junks?

The major means of information input into the human system can be reviewed under; the media (television, newspapers, books etc) and the human environment (spoken words from peers and the people around). Critically examining what all these means make available to us by default, we would observe that almost all of it is dangerous to our spiritual health. We live in a world where most movies that we watch teach us violence, lust, unbelief etc. Most of the music we see around is centered on sex, fame, money or lust painted to us as love. Even a large number of books are filled with such things. Truthfully I am not saying that good movies and books do not exist, they do, and as a matter of fact there are quite a lot of them. But we tend to go for the unedifying ones, maybe because they seem sweet (just like Lucy and her chocolate) or because they are the ones that seem to be in vogue in the world. No wonder why the bible says in Romans 12 vs 1 that we should not be conformed to this world but we should be transformed by the renewing of our mind. We ought to remember that friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4). The things we feed our minds should not be the ones that increase our friendship with the world and ultimately increases our enmity with God. God is our source and our everything. The truth is that we have the Holy Spirit and any time we are eaten the wrong thing he would nudge us and make us realize that what we are eating is not going to be benefiting to our spirit. However, he won’t force us to stop so it is left to us to oblige and stop immediately. Jeremiah said that he found the word of God and ate them and they were unto him the joy and rejoicing of his heart (Jer. 15:16). We ought to eat the word of God because it is the most nutritious food we can ever get. The bible says we should desire the sincere milk of the word of God that we may grow thereby. (1 pet 2:2) the word of God is the perfect diet. Other safe meals are edifying books, spirit lifting music, Christian movies etc. We should always feed healthy. The bible says that we should not grieve the Holy Spirit for he is our seal unto the day of redemption (Eph. 4:30), eating spiritually dirty and unhealthy food is simply going to send the Holy Spirit packing from our lives and the truth is that we can’t survive in this world without the help of the Holy Spirit. He is supposed to be our teacher, comforter, director, and even our senior partner. As children of god we sometimes notice that we are so charged up in the spirit and we feel like ‘bring the sick and I will heal them’ and at some other times we feel so weak and almost dry, then we remember that we were once so hot and charged up and just like Lucy we ask ourselves “how did I get here?”. The simple answer is you didn’t feed you spirit right that’s how you got there. To avoid rising and falling or even spiritual death, feed your mind right avoid spiritual poisons. Once the Holy Spirit nudges you to stop feeding on something, don’t even think about it, just stop!
