adventurous sons who look for trouble

The shingle-shack they take refuge in rattles hard with each wing flap overhead, ready to snap apart at any moment. Peeping out a small hole, Sam asks “what’s next”? Dean, fumbling in the dark, grasps the hand scrawled map that was knocked out of his hand when they dove in the shack for cover. “Okay here, LOOK, when she flies past the back once more, scramble for that pile of rocks by that ridge. There’s a hole to the lair, jump in. It goes straight to her den where she guards the treasure. The pearl is set inside a skull, grab it. Meet me under the hole – I’ll help you back out”.

Sam waits for the dragon to fly by then makes for the hole, several times almost dying in the process by nearly sliding into the deep ravine. He reaches the hole, looks in and rolls onto his back with a desperate stare. The jump down is a long and dangerous. Even with rope, he’ll have to jump. He heads down the rope, takes a deep breath and jumps – screaming a profanity and landing ungracefully with a thud. Getting up, he dusts off, starts scanning around the dark room. With the small amount of light coming in the hole he miraculously spots it! Running over, Sam grabs the skull, smashes it on the wall and grabs the largest pearl known to man. He grabs a large dragon scale as he runs back towards the spot. He once heard a yarn about it reflecting dragon fire; he prays it works as he runs back to the hole. Dean waits up above with a longer rope, pulling Sam up, fast as he can.

Reaching the top – Dean asks for the pearl, Sam hands it over. “Mom’s going to be pissed…”
