Of human thoughts how empathy is confused with sympathy
Empathy

Not to be confused with sympathy
But they can become one in the same
Figuring out who’s to blame
While absorbing all of the grief and pain
Creeping up like a cold dark rain
Watching as it smothers
Trying to understand the plight of others
Drowning in the falseness of what seems so surreal
Somehow it can became oh so real
Wearing a mask of happiness
Inside becomes of sadness and hopelessness
Somehow empathy became sympathy
Leading to a spiral of lost hope
Trying to understand and how to cope
Acting as an anchor to positive thoughts
Stuck in like a wedge
Starting to wonder what’s beyond the ledge
Pulling back, back from the despair
Trekking through the weeds
Finding small glimpses of green
Hoping to plant more hopeful seeds
Bright sunshine and flowery meadows can now be seen
Fog of despair lifting
Somehow returning to what once was
Thoughts of things to come and had been
Life is now worth living again
