Poem about the disaster in New York in the wake of Hurricane Sandy
Breezy Point is on fire
Roofs filled with sparks
Eaves fall in flames
And crumbling shingles

Streets filled with water
And the trains won't run for awhile

Clusters of brave firemen look away
With faces drawn and helpless

New York, New York
The brilliant jewel of a new river
A new collective, elemental memory
Of water, wind, and flame
Sandy set Queens on fire
A woman's wrath that tore apart
Families and futures

"They have elected to stay"

Breezy point is on fire
And no one will sleep
In their beds tonight

Billions on fire
Millions in the dark
