A poem written for a contest using the words "Ocean" and "Obsessions"
O.C.D

I cannot sleep in silence
Or walk in the rain.

Every time I order a drink
My heart stops
For fear of watermarks
Or a crack in the glass,

Whilst at home the washing machine
Constantly sloshes
My barely soiled clothes
Around its shiny drum.

And food?
Don’t even get me started
On that.

I ride the waves
On the ocean of my obsessions
Whilst those around me
Flail and sink
In its complex depth.

I’m switching the plugs off
At the wall –

Whilst they – in their folly-
Are getting up at a different time
Or not having a biscuit
With their tea.
