A poem about memories, time, and commitment.
Sandcastles

Everyone builds sandcastles.
Some build quick ones, some build many
But when every grain’s a story
A history shared and remembered -

My castles are few and far in between
I build them cautiously
Meticulously with an eye for detail
Every gain picked and chosen from the many
Lovingly placed in the pile of growing histories that is Us
The growing fortress with its scenic towers courtyards and buttresses

And the larger it grows the surer I am that it will outlast the tempest
Fare the storms that so often assail it

And I, too, try to stop the waves and tide
The relentless surf that washes our sand-memories
Too far out to sea.

But it is futile. And that is fine.

We are always rebuilding.
