A poem about looking back and going forward simultaneously.
In the cultivation of heavy lids
And the rasp of restless larynx
Many hours out of use,
Compose; destroy; reform-
Enjoy; with wide-eyed toddler interest, learn.
Naively swallow old planetary bodies whole.
Wash them down with all the
Late nights and coffee-flavored liqueur;
The shared last bites, the multitudes
Of baking powder and Enriched White Adluh flour-fights-
Digest, process, and mourn.
In the higher elevations, the influx of new embraces:
In peculiar green vibrations; in the flashing of the faces…
Sunrise, sunfall; moon softens all, and
Cleaves the years with care.
It leads to this
Annual mass-migration, and
The renascent return of rich
Autumn-scented air.
