Laryngitis in the extreme
Thank God I'm an author and don't need to sing
because this morning my voice won't ring
through a microphone,
megaphone,
or even my cell.

Last night was cold
and the heat pump not heating
my bedroom
or house
and my vocal cords freezing;
I'm unable to speak in even a whisper,
so
I write everything with arthritic joints aching
and the pain pills not working.

As soon as hot coffee defrost my cold cords,
I'm calling a technician
to fix the heat pump,
in the mean time
wool gloves will warm up my joints
and the matching red scarf
will keep my neck cozy.
