Sun sets behind the city across the canal.
Blades of golden grass, painted from the sun’s brilliant brush strokes folded around my fingers I used to prop my back off the hill. The light peeked over from the tops of the buildings, blinding me from most of the city across the canal. I pulled my phone from my pocket and the screen blinked to life. Access to hundreds of friends and yet I wanted to talk to no one. Tossing my phone down into the grass beside me, I turned my gaze back to the sun and smiled knowing this may be the last time I see it. The sun’s warm light washed over my face and I could remember the first time I had seen that brilliant aura. The darkness of that day was nearly encompassing but even the slightest beam from my sun chased all that away. The cold lonely darkness fleeing, replaced with my sun’s warm smile.

Distracted by my daydreaming I had forgot about the time and the sun now sat firmly behind the city across the canal, small rays still gasped through the cracks in the buildings, selfishly forgetting about me on this side. The last rays passed over me, only a bittersweet reminder of what was, a halfhearted apology about the returning darkness. I spun my head looking behind me and I watched as the darkness begin to creep up behind me. My sun was leaving me! Why? Was there someone who loved it more than me on the other side of that canal? I begged for it to come back, my warmth, my light. No one fears the darkness like me!

The sun now sat behind the horizon, the city across the canal now just dimly lit as if a small candle had been placed in the center. Why did me light leave me? Did I not love it enough? Did I neglect my sun? Tears began to stream down my face and I pulled at the now oil black grass under my fingers. Looking up I realized, the darkness was now all around me, no stars, no moon, nothing!  I screamed throwing the grass into the wind. Without my sun I am nothing!

My tears fell into my lap and I hug my head looking  down at me hands  they were covered in mud! How had I not noticed this before? As my eyes adjusted to the dark I saw I was covered in the stuff from my shoes to my shirt collar. I chuckled to myself, and wiped off what I could before standing up. How could I have been blinded  the light I forgot about myself? I looked down and smiled at how ridiculous I looked before grabbing my phone from the grass and opening the contacts.
