A longing for a lost friendship becomes an obsession to reconnect.
When your telephone rang
late last night,
it was me on the other end.

You could not hear me wishing
I could stay on the line
and talk to you,
as I have in times before,
instead of replacing the receiver
to its base.

Your voice was so deep
it frightened me,
I had not heard it for so long,
and I was afraid you would discover
my obsession
for hearing one word,

Hello.
