Marcus fails to find a job. He meets his old friend Michelle and makes a deal he'll regret
I awaken in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, just like always. I look at my clock. It's 3:35, isn't that perfect. I'm awake while the rest of the world is sleeping, while the Earth is finally still, I'm alone not like I'm surprised. I look around my dingy apartment. Nothing, nothing but dirt, dust, and cheap furniture. Great! How did I end up in a place like this? I'm suppose to be making myself into something, yet I'm stuck here. At least I'm in L.A., if I can make it here I can make it anywhere, or so I've been told. I lay back down and sink into the bed with every creak. I have to get out of here! I just have to. It's 10:30, now that's more like it. The sound of honking horns, traffic jams, and airplanes fill my room. What can I say? This L.A., this is where all the big stars become famous, and this is where I'll get my start. I get myself ready and sprint out the door. Why lock it? I don't have anything vauable in there, plus the lock doesn't work on the door anyway. If the house is tha bad, what is he driving is probably your next question. Don't worry it's a junker, but at least it moves. I drive to the heart of Los Angeles and begin doing casting calls. Call after call after call, nothing! All I get is the same answer, "Your just not what we're looking for. Sorry." Well sorry isn't good enough. Sorry isn't gonna help me feel any better. It's just a word. "Marcus!" I hear from cross the street. I look up to see a bright-eyed girl glancing my way. She runs across the street and stops inches from my face. "Hi Marcus! Do you remember me?" She has short brown hair that glistens as the sun hits her red highlights. The freckles dance across her nose onto her cheeks. "I don't think I know you, sorry." I say looking for the right thing to tell her. "It's me Michelle! I get a little fame and my old friends don't even want to talk to me anymore." I stare at her with an intense focus until it hits me. Michelle was my best friend from Little Rock, butshe was offered a role in as a supporting actress in a short film and she left. "How've you been boy? Still trying to make it big?" she looks so sincere, yet her words cut like little daggers. Yeah, trying because that was the only thing I could do. Try. "Yeah I'm still trying it's kind of hard though. You know how the job community is right now." I try to play it cool, but I began to panic. "Well, if you need a job my manager is looking for some fresh faces. We have to induct them today though. So do you want in?" She extends her arm, looking for a glimer of hope. I look at her hand and notice a shadow like tattoo laying on her wrisrt. It has words on it, yet they're in another language. I take a deep breath and shake her hand. This is the beginning of my new life. This is the beginnig of this life's end.
