I watch as uncontrollable events happen before my eyes.
It was early in the evening
with the fog rolling in.
It was early in the evening
with the cold creeping in.

I walked along with a companion yet I walked along alone.

There was nothing but
the sound of traffic.
There was nothing but
the sound of footsteps.

I walked along and could not think.

And then that's when it happened
I looked up.
And then that's when it happened
I witnessed it.

I saw an epiphany accompanied by a polyphony.

She was in a rush
trying to cross the road.
She was in a rush
trying to get to the other side.

I saw the traffic whiz passed yet I saw the traffic stand still.

A collision occurred
she was flung into the air.
A collision occurred
she impacted with damp ground.

I walked to her side to the spot she was laying.

There was no movement
she lay perfectly still.
There was no movement
she could barely breathe.

I walked to a stranger and asked for some help.

A doctor it was
who helped her to breathe.
A doctor it was
who caressed life back into her helpless body.

I saw her eyes flutter and I saw her legs twitch.

She would be ok
an ambulance was called.
She would be ok
an ambulance would arrive.

And with that revelation, my epiphany was interrupted, as a crash scene involving an old lady played out before me.
My heart leapt into my throat, my eyes widened, and let the motions play out before me.
