Letter to human resources from an employee.
May 5, 2013

Dave Brown
Director of Human Resources
Good Samaritan Retirement Community
P. O. 2120
Mt Pisgah, South Carolina 28710

Dear Dave,

Please accept my plea for the establishment of a "No Solicitation" policy at the Good Samaritan Retirement Community.  We are in the fifth month of 2013.  Below is a list of the workplace solicitations I have received to date.

January - Our lab director's grandson came by in his Boy Scout uniform selling popcorn.  The following week one of our certified nursing assistants brought around a brochure asking that we buy pizzas for her daughter's spring trip.  Susan in the kitchen also hosted a Privileged Chef party during the noon hour.

February - Our receptionist's mother passed away and we passed around the hat for flowers.  Our lab director's son, the Boy Scout was back, this time selling seeds.  One of our nurses hosted an Organize your Closet party after work.

March - I was asked to provide refreshments for the staff meeting and to provide decorations for the monthly birthday party.  A catalog from the Forty-two company, featuring handbags and monogrammed luggage, was passed around because the social worker's granddaughter was raising money for her basketball team.

April.  It was appreciate the administrative staff month and we were asked to provide a card, a gift and desserts for a reception for the support staff.  In addition, our supervisor's daughter is graduating from college.  The hat was passed for her graduation present.

May - One of our housekeeping staff suffered a death in the family and we were asked to contribute money for flowers.  It is also Relay for the Cause month,  and we're being asked to submit a twenty dollar team member fee, sell t-shirts and come up with a plan to raise additional funds.

Dave, as you know our institution is known as a nice place to work, but not because of our wages.  It is a widely held belief that we are among the poorest paid employees in the region.  How can we afford this continuous onslaught of solicitations with our current hourly wages?

Please either establish a "No solicitation" policy or send cash so that I can afford to work here.

Sincerely,

Chaplain Jones
