The mights of this world are many...but there is always a known.
I Might...

I might lie awake at night wondering where you are,
Perhaps also wondering why you went away so far.

I might cry when I remember what you had to do,
Because I know it was our country who asked you to.

I might feel sad to tell our children you won't be coming home,
Then lie awake at night feeling so alone.

I might get angry at what people might say,
That the war on terror was not the only way.

I might understand the guilt and fear your commrades come home with,
Because forgetting what happened out there could only be a myth.

I might smile to know you are going be alright,
When I watched you tuck our children in that very first night.

I might see the good you do when you put the mission first,
And just hold you when the memories are truly at their worst.

I might visit you at your grave surrounded by many others,
And hug the grieving sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers.

I might not want to remember or even feel a thing,
Because not knowing is the hardest about what the news will bring.

Then I might lie awake at night waiting for your call,
But I will always know you, respect you, love you, the bravest one of all.
