sometimes you feel these things

Sorrow

How to withstand the sorrow
How to survive the pains
Not the physical aspect though
But the emotional lightning bolt that reigns

The words that tumble out of a mouth
Can cut like the proverbial knife
Thoughtless words that when spoken
Brings so much pain to life

What wisdom can erase this pain
What antidote for this terrible feeling
How many tears will it take to wash it away
This pain that has your heart reeling

What inner child has not cried tears of pain
Because of words spoken needlessly
You know the pain I speak of
You know the depth; you see

What escape is there from the hurt
Only a mind dulled by alcohol or drugs
The mind frantically searching for freedom
But, in the end, your heart shrugs

Somehow you live each day
Trying to get free from sorrow
Somehow you live each day
Hoping for a much better tomorrow

On the other side of tears
