The Telephone - annoyance or lifesaver?
Tring, tring….
The phone rings,
There it goes again,
What a pain.
Just when I’m sitting down to eat
Or wanting to watch a TV treat.
“Hello,
is that Mr So-and-so?
And how are you today…”
“Get on with it,” you want to say.
“I’m John (from Timbuktu),
Wanting to have a word with you,
We have an offer that will blow you away
Listen to what I have to say…”
“No, I’m not interested,” you say and slam down the phone.
Why don’t I just get rid of this thing? you moan.
But then you think of days gone by
And remember the reason why
You were thankful it was near,
When the phone brought cheer
And allayed your fear.
When illness struck
And your life almost took.
It brought an ambulance to your door
And paramedics to reassure.
Bad as it is most of the time
The phone is a lifeline
That can save the day.
On second thoughts, let it stay!
