Branding in the spring
Springtime

To the east
The sky glows red
Coffee’s aroma
Cowboys awake from bed

Breakfast done
Horses saddled
Cowboys mounting up
Branding fire kindled

Horses hooves
Pounding the ground
Cowboys throw their loops
Calves being drug around

Coals glowing
Irons hot, waiting
Burning hair smell, thick
Springtime, cowboys branding.
