A poem about gaining an animals trust.
Grey and Her Brood

A quaint little house nestled low in the glen,
where I lived for a spell, a sweet place to have been.
A striped mother cat with a small batch of kittens
appeared as I gathered up wood with my mittens.

They all were abandoned and dropped on my land.
The mother would run if I'd reach out my hand.
But all of her kittens would come for a treat,
some diced chicken livers; they ravished the meat.

Each day I would care for mom "Grey" and her brood.
Then after a week I'd hand fed Grey some food.
But Grey wouldn't come up unless I were lounging,
she'd  timidly creep for the food she was scrounging.

A month had passed by when Grey curled in my lap.
Her kittens all playing while she took her nap.
We're all happy campers, the kittens all grown.
It took them awhile... now our house is a home.
