A SHORT STORY TO BE CONTINUED
Lance pulled the cover back."What the heck is it?" he asked Charlie.

"Beats me. It looks like a squashed alien".

Lance raised his eyebrows and looked at him. "Your joking, right?"

"Well, you hear stories all the time about aliens coming down hear and doing all sorts of experiments on us".

"So what happened to him then; did it go wrong?"

Charlie laughed," Either that or he messed with the wrong guy."

Lance replaced the cover."Anyway, we'll need to clean this up before mom sees it. She'll go nuts."

They both turned to seek the necessary tools for the job when a faint flatulence noise came from the bed.

They looked at each other startled, then towards the bed as the cover rose slightly and then fell again.

It let out a smell, so bad, it almost brought their insides to the outside.

They tried to compose themselves.

"What the hell,"said Lance.

"I have no idea, but did that thing just let off some gas?"

"No, don't be silly. A squashed piece of jelly? Maybe someone left it there as a prank."

" A giant woopee cushion," added Charlie.

Both intently stared at it, waiting for any movement to determine if their imaginations were overheating.

After a minute of complete silence, they let out a sigh and relax a little.

"We must be going crazy or something,"claimed Lance.

"That's because we watched that movie the other night. They just mess with your head," Charlie replied.

They turned around again to fetch the wastebucket and gloves for the clean-up operation when the covers rose high to the ceiling in total silence.

The thing beneath was six feet wide and ten feet tall and the cotten bed-sheet was still draped over its huge figure.

It could see its prey through the close-spun linen. It's carcass mouth dripped with anticipation. It could smell their insides, every drop of blood and it wanted all of it.

The cover slid off its well polished body. It no longer resembled a flattened squid, but a multi-tentacled living organism with a gaping mouth full of three inch long razor-sharp teeth. Its eyes, the dark sunken embers of hell.

Red, gunge fluid oozed from its features and soaked the mattress.

Lance and Charlie had briefly left the room, but would return to a monstrosity bearing down on them.

Charlie entered the room first with a plastic sack and with his head down was trying to open it.

He was still unaware of the alien manifestation priming its position to devour him as he struggled to get the sack open.

The beast glided across the air as quiet as a grasshopper swapping one stalk of grass for another.

Charlie only looked up because the creatures sheer mass blacked out the light from the ceiling.

It was too late to even scream. The mutation was over him like a sickly, saturated tent.It sucked him dry in seconds and crunched through his bones like a packet of twiglets.

Lance walked in to see his friends head disappearing into the monsters mouth.

He froze to the spot.

He could only watch it as it finished off his buddy.

Now, it wanted him.

The merciless monster was two metres in front of Lance and he knew if he didn,t come unstuck -- FAST -- he was doomed.

He threw the bucket at it which only made it angrier.

Lance was already turned to throw himself through the doorway as the creature tried to fly into the air and smother him but found its self a bit too heavy after just swallowing 100 kilos of human.

It scurried across the floor like a demented lizard and emitted the most ear-splitting cries as it managed to wrap one of its large snake-like tentacles around Lance's foot.

Lance fell to the ground as he tried to grip the door frame and turned to kick the oversized insect with all his might.

It's grip was too powerful. Like a thousand Dyson hoovers rolled into one tentacle, it slowly sucked him towards it's jaws of death.

He was losing the will to fight back as the metal shovel he brought to tidy up lay beside him.

Lance picked it up and swung it down hard on its rubbery surface slicing the end off it's tentacle.

It let out a piercing cry of a thousand screams that shattered all the windows in the room. The flapping tentacle sprayed the walls like a fire-hose with green, gungy blood.

The demonic mutation rattled and slapped the floor as the wound sent it scurrying under the bed.

Lance gained courage and momentum with his attack and pursued it to where it fled.

Armed with only his metal shovel, he hounded it to its brief lair.
