Sounds in the Forest
Dawn
The forest finally wakes

Trees sway in a soft breeze
Their hushed voices whispering first

Birds trill
The high pitched song of morning in the canopy

Soon
Gentle padding sounds

A doe and her fawn
Graze delicately in the clearing of grass

Slowly, silently
A fox treads as if he were floating

Stalking his unlucky target
The red breasted robin

As the fox nears
The feathered creature shies away

The dance of predator and prey
Continues until mid morning

Another second
One minute
Two minutes
Three minutes

Finally exhausted
The fox again treads

This time away
Back to rest in its den

As evening falls
Nocturnals at last wake

And night tones
Emerge from once sleeping entities

Raccoons search noisily
For discarded morsels

From perches owls faintly hoot
And critically inspect the ground

For mice
An other tasty treats

A feral cat
Or two

Appear and pursue
Their own meal silently

As dawn slowly arrives
The morning wood begins to speak again
