Love comes undone when one betrays the other, but the last kiss haunts them.
The Last Kiss

A brooding storm lay under the veils that hung
from her soul, reflecting apathy,
to shroud his betrayal
while she wore a zombie smile.

And now he returned
snatching moments for his memories,
puffing soliloquy about his new leap to love,
so tired of chasing down the moon.

She wished him well.
A shared embrace and a kiss transcending
she grasped the veils too late,
as the passionate winds of the storm
lifted them; updrafting old betrayals,
vanishing in the swirling abyss.

He tumbled in turbulent winds
that would not release him
from the shadow of his dream,
while the veils caressed his being,
lingering to savor her essence, til beyond.

And when the storm relinquished its fury,
they parted onto different black wet
streets, another existence waiting;
taking the haunting ache of a kiss
to the edge of silence.
