A poem about a conductor leading a band of students at a concert.
The Conductor

Anticipation…
written on their faces.
Almost time to begin.

They look around
until they have found
a familiar face
in the crowd.

The arms are raised.
The crowd abased
as the conductor announces
the tune.

She commands their tune
with a precision of
sharp pulsations
of her arm and baton.

Magically the sound comes forth until
with a quick stroke of the baton…
it is gone.
